Any chance you're nervy?

It's pretty likely that you're not super used to getting in front of the camera, on your own at least. You may have only done so at family photos or long ago at your wedding or graduation. Being the center of attention with the lens on you can feel pretty uncomfy and you may be getting anxious.

The good news is, all you need is a little prep and you'll be feelin' yourself in no time! My clients leave shoots all the time telling me how confident and empowered they felt! It's basically a senior photo session for grown ups!

So what is this prep I speak of? Let me give you a few tricks...

1.know your "why"

It's always important to have a goal for your shoot. Why are you getting these pictures done/what will they be used for? Do you need a great content library so you no longer have to think "what do I post?" every day? Are you revamping your website and need some topic and size-specific imagery? Are you launching a sweet new project and want to come out with a BANG for your marketing? Whatever you're getting the photos for, it's important to know that so we can check all of the boxes for your needs.

If your photos are going to be used in artwork and have graphics or text added, you'll likely need landscape with some negative space. If you're primarily going to use images for social media, they'll need to be shot with those aspect ratios in mind. No one likes looking at their awesome photo and thinking "dangit but it doesn't fit in this spot!" or "oh but my head gets cut off on IG!"

All of my clients get an extensive questionnaire sent over weeks before their shoot. This gives me tons of info on WHO the face/personality of the brand is and makes you think about it too! That way when it's time for the session we can be on the same wavelength and just have a blast shooting.

2.know your "must haves"

If there's something specific that you KNOW you'll want a shot of, make sure to take note of it! Maybe you're launching a new product soon and you want to post a "celebration" photo with a glass of champagne or need a great headshot for your "about" section on your site. It's super helpful to share a list with your photographer so we can make sure to check off the priorities!

Keep in mind that many of these shots are multi-purpose so I've got a great master list of shots I always make sure to get. Still, every brand is unique and you know yours best so let's work together to make your experience exactly what you need!

3.glow up

If ever, this is the time to splurge on lookin' FLY. Been looking for a reason to get your nails done, a new outfit, or a fresh hilight? You should feel like the best version of you so wear clothes you feel confident in is key. I'm a leggings, white tee and white tennis kind of gal, but that can still be achieved in a very "put together" way. Show off the freshest version of who you truly are

4.bring along brand colors

Listen, if it were up to me I'd wear black leggings and a white crop tee (shout out to the Universal Thread one that I own 5 of) every day, and I often do. I'm a firm believer that black and white are classic and timeless colors that make any brand look sleek. Still, it's helpful to add a bit of color here and there for interest.

Think about what colors you have in your logo or even what you gravitate to when making posts in Canva. (Check out how to set up your brand kit!) Work these in through clothes & props to help everything look cohesive and consistent. This ensures brand trust with your clients!

5.trust me!

Listen Linda. I'm pretty good at what I do, if I do say so myself. I TOTALLY get that it's tough to invest in something and not have total control on how it shakes out, but when you find a photographer you truly vibe with, all will go smoothly. The best think you can do is RELAX and be yourself, proudly! It's my job to make you (and your brand) look stellar and I vow to do that. We're in this together!
